Wild Fermented Verdejo, Piqueras

Bright and golden yellow to the eye, this wine has an intense complex nose of ripe exotic fruit, minerals and a touch of wood. Unctuous and elegant on the palate with great natural acidity, balance and a persistent finish. This really is a stunning wine-drinking experience, the fermented flavours are more intense than expected, the quality is exceptional and would be fabulous with Roasted chicken or spiced food.

Piqueras winery is family owned and this is the fourth generation of the Piqueras family to have overseen the property since it was established in 1915. The winery is in Almansa, in south-east Spain, some 40 miles from Alicante and the Mediterranean Sea. Their vineyards are in a wine-growing area of the Almansa D.O. characterised by its low fertility and low rainfall which, together with the semi-arid climate, combine to create the ideal conditions to produce richly aromatic wines of intense colour. The Verdejo grapes are sourced from their coolest high-altitude vines and carefully selected and harvested at night in mid-September selecting the best small bunches of grapes with optimal maturity.
