The name Primitivo derives from the Italian for “first native”, since this is the first black grape variety to be ready for harvesting. The name Pilùna denotes the ancient tuffstone containers used to preserve olive oil and wine.
Castello Monaci Piluna is a vigorous and evocative red. It has a dark purple red colour. The olfactory bouquet is broad, fruity, with notes of ripe red fruit and black cherry and marasca cherry jam; followed by hints of pepper and vanilla with flavours of Mediterranean scrub. The taste is soft and concentrated, with a finish that recalls small berry jam. Warm, intense and engaging
