Chateau Bastor-Lamontagne Sautrnes is a beautiful intense gold, A delicate floral and tart nose and has great fullness in the mouth with notes of white fruits (peach, pear) and candied apricots. Beautiful ensemble, nervous and racy, a fine promise of the vintage.

After a particularly rainy winter, the budburst took place evenly at the beginning of April. The cool, wet spring, which lasted until the end of June, caused a significant delay in flowering, which took place in a chaotic manner. The favourable weather conditions in July (heat and lack of rain) and to a lesser extent in August gave us renewed confidence. After a cool and damp start to the month, a sudden rise in temperatures from 20 September onwards caused a generalised invasion of botrytis, which enabled us to start harvesting from 26 September onwards. The first selections took place in optimal conditions, until the heavy rainfall of October 6th and 7th, which penalized the end of the harvest, which was completed on October 18th.

THE REGION

The vine was introduced to the Bordeaux region by the Romans, probably in the mid-first century, to provide wine for local consumption, and wine production has been continuous in the region since.

Bordeaux wine growing area has about 116,160 hectares (287,000 acres) of vineyards, 57 appellations, 10,000 wine-producing estates (châteaux) and 13,000 grape growers. With an annual production of approximately 960 million bottles,[34] the Bordeaux area produces large quantities of everyday wine as well as some of the most expensive wines in the world. Included among the latter are the area’s five premier cru (First Growth) red wines (four from Médoc and one, Château Haut-Brion, from Graves), established by the Bordeaux Wine Official Classification of 1855:

Both red and white wines are made in the Bordeaux region. Red Bordeaux wine is called claret in the United Kingdom. Red wines are generally made from a blend of grapes, and may be made from Cabernet SauvignonMerlotCabernet FrancPetit verdotMalbec, and, less commonly in recent years, Carménère.

White Bordeaux is made from Sauvignon blancSémillon, and MuscadelleSauternes is a sub-region of Graves known for its intensely sweet, white, dessert wines

ABOUT THE PRODUCER

“Nil sine Fide”, the Château motto recalls the noble past of Chateau Bastor-Lamontagne.
Indeed, the property belonged to the royal estates until 1711. In the 19th century, Mr Amédée Larrieu, who was the owner of Chateau Haut Brion in Pessac, purchased Bastor-Lamontagne.
Since 2018 the Helfrich family, the new owners, have been writing a new page in the history of this great wine.
The Château is located in Preignac, in one of the five communes of the Sauternes Appellation and extends over 56 hectares in one single plot.
The vineyard has been certified Organic since the 2016 vintage.
