This is the second wine of well-known Haut Médoc Château Citran. The owners, the Meurlaut family, are stewards of several other châteaux including such great names as Gruaud-Larose and Chasse-Spleen. As is typical, the estate has a majority of Cabernet Sauvignon, but this wine favours more Merlot to give a more open style and is more approachable.
We tasted this vintage over dinner in Bordeaux itself and I couldn’t believe the value it offered. The bottle age means this is in a perfect place for drinking immediately and the quality of 2010 means the wine has plenty of concentration. Soft supple leather and cedar notes combined with black cherry and redcurrant fruits.
